Starting day 2
Day 2 routeChecking maps at the start

On day 2 we are off again. The rain has stopped and the fog vanished, however it is a long way back to the finish and we are wary of too many diversions on the route. We study the map at the start and decide on a mountain climb and traverse for the first 9 or 10km followed by trails for most of the rest of the route.

In making our plan we fail to spot the high scoring plateau in the south east corner of the map and miss out on 100 or so points (oops).

Approaching the finishWe make it to the finish with a lot of time to spare and wonder whether we have been ambitious enough. Steve and Mark's arrival shows that we were definately not. The profile below is the route that we followed - 22km and 937m of ascent. The one at the bottom is Steve and Mark's route - another 1.8km and 130m of climbing but with over 100 points more. We congratulate them and curse our route choice. Well there is always next year...
